Our 13-bed dementia care unit, located in Abbeville, Alabama and built in 2002, provides excellent care for the treatment and management of dementia. A short term (20 day) stay at HCHR following a 3 night hospitalization will give you the time to focus on your recovery following surgery, an accident or medical illness. During your stay you will receive, as appropriate, Physical, Occupational and Speech Language therapy to help increase your strength, endurance, and mobility to get you back to your prior level of function without the stress of trying to cook, clean or care for family, pets and friends. You can focus on you and your recovery.
HCHR is very blessed to have to ability to perform swallow studies at our facilities without having to wait for an appointment and then transport our patients out to the hospital for testing. This is done through our Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) Equipment and performed by our Speech Language Pathologist.
Henry County Health and Rehabilitation has an outpatient therapy clinic on the same campus as the Skilled Nursing Facility. HCHR Outpatient Therapy Services offers Physical, Occupational and Speech Language Pathology services to all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Physical Therapy (PT) will get you back to living your life following injury or surgery. PT addresses total body strengthening, balance, lower extremity coordination and range of motion, vertigo disorders, cardiac and pulmonary declines, back stabilization, and pain management. PT can also assist with conditioning following any type of hospitalization.
The focus of Occupational Therapy (OT) is to assist the patient with upper extremity rehabilitation and improving activities of daily living skills. Occupational Therapy works with patients following shoulder, elbow or wrist/finger surgery or injury. They can assist in recovery following a stroke, head injury or motor vehicle accident. The benefit of OT is to help you become more independent at home by improving strength, range of motion, grip strength and improving fine motor skills and coordination.
Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) deal with a plethora of disorders and areas. On a broad spectrum SLPs deal with communication, cognition and swallowing disorders. Broken down further SLPs assist with speech and language impairments, word finding problems, memory, organization, problem solving, and daily living skills. SLPs also assist to correct difficulties with the various phases of swallowing.
Assisted living is a great option for seniors who need help with preparing meals, managing medication, personal hygiene, and getting dressed but don’t require the extremely close monitoring or intensive medical support that comes with skilled nursing homes.
